Stampin' Up! is Blogging!

Plus we’ve got a newly designed website—Stampinup.com—your new home to come to every day!

You’ll find all sorts of fun things here—inspiring project ideas, information about our products (especially our new ones!), an inside look at what makes us tick, and much more.

To start things off, I decided to share an advent chain I made with the Merry Moments Simply Scrappin’, a package of Linen Thread, and a 1-3/8" Circle Punch.

First, I cut the Old Olive and Cherry Cobbler Cardstock into 3" x 6" pieces (which gives you 32 pieces total). Fold each piece in half to make a pocket, then wrap the pocket with the paper ribbon strips and adhere (or sew!) the sides.

Tip: If you sew the sides, do one side all at once and then turn and repeat for the other side.

Next, cut the Very Vanilla Cardstock into 2" x 2-3/4" pieces, and adhere the cardstock stickers back to back on the top. These cards are the advent part and will fit inside the pockets.

I created the numbers in My Digital Studio, and then printed them on the Basic Gray Cardstock from the kit. (I cut the paper down to fit in my printer.) You could also stamp or even write the numbers by hand.

For the chain, I cut the 6 sheets of Designer Series Paper into 1" x 6" strips (that’s 144 chain links!)

Tip: Have the kids staple the links together . . . they’ll love it!

Next, punch the corner of the pockets and attach to the chain with Linen Thread, and voilà—a fun holiday advent calendar! Hang on a mantle or staircase or even arrange it on a wall.

You can tuck anything you want inside the pockets—a daily scripture, a Christmas thought . . . whatever. Our family is going to write down a family activity that we can do every day. We’re already coming up with a list of things we want to put on the cards, but I’d love for you to share.

What are some of your family’s favorite holiday activities?
