Top 5 Cardmaking Supplies to Help You Get Started

Are you interested in making your own cards but have no idea where to start? This handy guide will get you moving in the right direction.
To begin your creative journey, you’ll need to become familiar with some basic card making supplies!

Here’s the shortlist:

1_Cardstock

Cardstock or Paper

Your artwork needs a proper canvas, right? The great thing about cardmaking is you have lots of options for your medium: cardstock, patterned paper, single-colored paper, etc. If you want something long-lasting and durable, we recommend cardstock due to its heavy weight and ultrasmooth surface.

2_Stamps

Stamps

Whatever the occasion, there’s a stamp for that! Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, congratulating a graduate, hosting a party, or sending hugs to a loved one, you can find a stamp design to send the perfect message. And, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can make the design your own with custom color combos, shading, small stamp combinations, and more. You can even use markers to “ink” your stamp so you can have a multicolor design after just one press. We recommend photopolymer clear stamps because you can see your design through the clear stamp block, taking the guesswork out of creating the perfect layout.

3_Ink

Ink

Ink is absolutely essential for making your card. The color selection is pretty much unlimited, so you can get really creative with color combinations. Tip: Make sure you use ink colors that coordinate well with your paper or cardstock. Color coordination is key! We also recommend purchasing ink pads that won’t dry out when stored so that you can use them over and over again while getting the most for your money.

4_Embellishments

Embellishments

If you’d like your card to have a little extra pizazz, try adding sticker gems, sequins, ribbon, beads, and more. Embellishments can really make your card unique and will set your creation apart from pre-made, store-bought cards. Your card will have an added dimension to it that will surely delight the recipient.

5_Adhesives

Adhesives

You’ll need something to hold everything together! To keep the elements of your card in the right places, try using glue tape for simple handmade cards, fine tip glue pens or mini glue dots for embellishments, or dimensional foam adhesive. The foam adhesive can be extra fun because your card will “pop” with an added dimension.

You may also want a basic set of colored markers or pencils, chalk, embossers, or punches, but these aren’t necessary to get you started.

Our final recommendation for you is to HAVE FUN!
